It was all about getting members of the public to be silly and do daft things to make everybody smile. It was about acting your shoe size, not your age. It was about fun and nonsense and stupidity....
and it was also about putting pictures of said members of the public on the web...Devised by What A Palaver!!, the basic concept was to take audience participation to new extremes - in that the whole idea was for members of the public to entertain and amuse themselves by doing daft, silly and downright ridiculous things in public.
The rewards on offer varied from badges and balloons and goodie-bags to hard cash. And that much under-rated commodity, kudos.
Additionally, all those taking part were digitally photographed and given a card with a personal website address where they (and their friends, and the rest of the world) could see evidence of themselves palavering.
The whole thing was intended to be nothing more than a lot of fun - and nothing less than an enormous multi-media exploration of human and social behaviour.
It was originally commissioned by The Rhythtms of the City Festival in Leeds 1998. And the following year returned to the streets of Leeds. Unfortunately, there were no other event organisers prepared to take a risk (-and it was a bit expensive!), so we decided to retire the concept.
However...
The idea of taking pictures of people and putting them online did lead to the creation of The Digital Paparazzi. A much more successful venture! Click on the logo for details.
