Well, that's it then... After six and a half years, it's time to say goodbye to the old wapsite. the new site is finally online, and this 'news' page is no more. We're just too busy...
(October 2004)

A busy month (-it used to be quiet), with no less than 17 paparazzi jobs. Changing times.
(September 2004)
Funny old world... August used to be one of our busiest months, but times change. Started off with the Robin Hood Festival, which was wonderful as always, then a handful of paparazzi jobs then Rob went on holiday again.
(August 2004)

8 paparazzi jobs, at some wonderful venues, including our first Bat Mitzvah. And a fun week back at Middlesboro teaching kids to have fun in a circus style. And Rob & Amanda squeezed in a holiday in the sun too.
(July 2004)
14 paparazzi jobs - with some very interesting venues and themes. Dressed as schoolboys for a private screening of Harry Potter, and dressed very strangely for an 'Australian Xmas Beach Party' in Milton Keynes. And 3 days juggling and unicycling at Internet World.
(June 2004)

13 paparazzi jobs and 2 days in tights at Battle and Bexley, and Ian still managed to fit in a holiday - touring around Ontario, New York and Pennsylvania in a very comfortable Cadillac deVille. Having fun.
(May 2004)
Another very successful RSVP show at Olympia. As well as the 4 paparazzi on our own stand, we had another on the Madame Tussauds stand. The (many) pictures can be seen at www.prazzi.com/rsvp2004
(March/April 2004)

For the first time in the 11 year existence of What A Palaver we have not had a quiet start to the year. Of course we're not complaining! We successfully premiered D-V-US at Madame Tussauds - pronounced 'devious' - basically a hidden video camera with the footage shown on the big screen during dinner.
(February 2004)
Not the usual quiet month - 10 Digital Paparazzi jobs - a few late Christmas parties, a few corporate bashes, and a couple of very lavish birthday parties. And in between, working on our new video venture to be launched soon.
(January 2004)

Wow, what a busy Christmas we had! The Digital Paparazzi covered no less than 20 Christmas parties - some of which were quite spectacular. All in all, a very good end to our 10th anniversary year.
(December 2003)
A fairly quiet month - a few Digital Paparazzi jobs, 3 charity balls, Christmas lights switch-on in Eastwood, and 3 very pleasant days at the Victorian Christmas Fair at Warwick Castle.
(November 2003)

A more varied and action-packed October than usual. Four fun days of corporate circus workshop/fun days; a handful of Digital Paparazzi jobs - including 2 days at the Showman's Show in Newbury, and rounding off with our regular stint at the Robin Hood Pageant in Nottingham. And Ian managed to get to see some baseball in Miami too!
(October 2003)
Just 3 gigs with the bed of nails, fire and juggling - in Oxford (twice) and Clowne. But 13 for The Digital Paparazzi - covering the following... 30th birthday; 40th birthday; combined 21st, 50th and 60th birthday; 10th wedding anniversary; and 9 corporate events.
(September 2003)

It was hot and it was varied. Back at the Nottingham Riverside Festival and the Leeds Rhythms of the City Festival after missing them both for a few years. Two very pleasant days at Wakehurst Place in the Sussex countryside, 2 days in the Welsh valleys in Aberdare and Pontypridd. And Birmingham too.
(August 2003)
Started with a full week of circus workshops at a school in Middlesborough which was marvellous, working with top clowns Strawberry and Sonny & Rainbow. A lot of fun - and the kids enjoyed it too! And finished with the always wonderful Robin Hood Festival. With lots of good stuff in between.
(July 2003)

The sun is out and that means spending a lot of time in the van - Aberdeen, Camarthen, Middlesborough, and seven trips to the home counties, but Bradford was fairly local. Good job we love our van!
(June 2003)
Now we're getting busy! A good mixture of stuff - on the street in Stroud; in the parks of Oxford, Nottingham and Kent (twice); cabaret in Harrogate and Birmingham; and lots of fun with the Digital Paparazzi - including the UEFA Champions League Final in Manchester. Divertitevi!
(May 2003)

Well, the RSVP show was a roaring success! We had a lot of fun and a lot of interest. See the pictures at www.prazzi.com/rsvp2003.
(March/April 2003)
Pretty similar to last month, really. The stand at the RSVP show is looking like it's going to be a lot of fun! Which is how it should be. That's April 2-3, Olympia, London, UK.
(February 2003)

Quiet as usual. Working on new publicity material and other boring admin stuff. But also working on the very exciting stand we will have at the RSVP show at Olympia in April - to promote The Digital Paparazzi. See RSVP2003.co.uk or prazzi.com for further details.
(January 2003)
Aston Hall by Candlelight was very pleasant (again). And in amongst the Christmas parties we performed Piste!? on the streets of Birmingham, Haverhill and Cardiff. It really is a very silly sight. And half a day's filming for BBC1's 'Heaven And Earth' - to be shown sometime in January.
(December 2002)

Our busiest November ever! Mainly due to a string of jobs for Moschino at shopping centres throughout the UK. A variation of the Digital Paparazzi - we took the pictures but the website was designed and built by someone else. www.moschinofun.com.
(November 2002)
A typically average mixture of stuff. Cold on the streets of Widnes and Gateshead, but nice and warm in the smart hotels of London and Manchester. Culminating in our 9th appearance at the Robin Hood Pageant in Nottingham.
(October 2002)

Just a list... Groombridge Place (again); Florence Park, Oxford (again); Abbots Bromley Horn Dance (again); Lotus factory open day; Nottingham Old Market Square; Warwick Castle (again); plus 5 Digital Paparazzi gigs in some very smart venues and 4 banquets at Center Parcs.
(September 2002)
Our one and only 'overseas' gig this year was a fun day at the Island Arts Centre, Lisburn. That's not Lisbon. We did have 2 days by the beach in Bradford, but had the most wonderful evening at Fountains Abbey.
(August 2002)

Very busy. Premiered our new walkabout in Manchester for the Commonwealth Games. Piste!? is basically two lost and confused skiers. Very silly indeed. On Radio 5 live, Adrian Childs said it was 'the most bizarre sight of the games'. See the wapcam page.
(July 2002)
Roughly speaking, the month was equally split between four activities. Performing, driving, sleeping, and watching lots of football on video. A good month.
(June 2002)

Getting busier now, lots of fun gigs, but the highlight for Ian is his surprise 40th birthday present from Rob - seeing Kylie live in Manchester!!!
(May 2002)
Another appearance on that cult weekend late night ITV show 'Dial-A Date' - this time teaching a couple how to lie on the bed of nails - just what they wanted on their first date?!
(April 2002)

Two highlights of this month... Rob set a new personal best for a volunteer standing on him on the bed of nails - 24 stone (336 lb, or 153 kg). Also, we went to the British Juggling Convention and had fun and took some pictures - a digital paparazzi special
(March 2002)
Still a quiet start to the year, so time for Ian to go on holiday for a fortnight in the sun in Cape Town while Rob refits his new kitchen.
(February 2002)

January is traditionally our quietest month. No exception this year.
(January 2002)
An action-packed and very varied month. Including the following themed events: Victorian, medieval, 1920s, 1950s, 1960s, Italian and pantomime. And more fireworks in Manchester, and slabsquare hit Tunbridge Wells.
(December 2001)

The sunniest, driest, Robin Hood Pageant ever - it was great. The firework display at Runcorn was amazing. But the most fun gig of the month was an evening of music, dance and silliness in memory of the late, great, Tony Barratt.
(November 2001)
It's been a strange kind of year - a very slow start followed by a summer badly affected by foot & mouth, and now the busiest autumn ever. Well, they say there's no business like it...
(October 2001)

September is traditionally a medium/quiet month, but we had a good variety of stuff - a wedding, a golden anniversary, a castle, a stately home, and Coalville Market. And Oxford and Tenby too.
(September 2001)
The Robin Hood Festival was a lot of fun as ever. And we presented slabsquare.com in Portsmouth on the hottest day of the year. And Rob now lives in a very nice bungalow.
(August 2001)

Well at least the weather is good... on the domestic front WAP HQ is now fully double-glazed and the roses are in full bloom. Rob is in the process of moving house. Again.
(July 2001)
Several gigs cancelled due to foot and mouth disease. But we did have a damn good time in New York, entertaining at Mrs Hadley's party on Long Island.
(June 2001)

The most exciting news this month is that we have a new van. A super smart VW Transporter. Well we're excited.
(May 2001)
A quiet start to the year, the foot and mouth problem seems to be affecting us badly, so we've had plenty of time to work on new material. The Digital Paparazzi is going well, with a new site with an easier name, www.prazzi.com
(April 2001)

Working on new material for the all-new street show to be premiered in Manchester at the x.trax festival, May 6th and 7th. We will also be presenting www.slabsquare.com again. It worked so well on New Year's Eve we decided we had to offer it to a wider audience.
(March 2001)
The weather was miserable, the diary was looking bleak, so Ian went off to Hawaii for a couple of weeks while Rob got on with decorating his kitchen.
(February 2001)

Relaxing, taking it easy, having a break, going on holiday.
(January 2001)
Our busiest and most varied December ever. A fitting end to our busiest and most varied year ever. Culminating with a cold, wet, but fun new year's eve in Nottingham. See www.slabsquare.com for further details.
(December 2000)

Watch 'Dial-A-Date', ITV, Friday 24th November, half-past-midnight, for the first showing on TV of the legendary, infamous, ridiculous, 'Handbag Dance'. It's daft, it's outrageous, but it's definitely not kids stuff.
Mostly getting ready for December, working on brand new routines, and sorting out New Year's Eve festivities for Nottingham City Centre - watch out for www.slabsquare.com
(November 2000)
A fairly typical October, nothing much happens all month but the Robin Hood Pageant in Nottingham is a nice way to end it - compering and fooling around as usual.
(October 2000)

Not so many gigs so busy in the back garden making use of a big pile of broken paving slabs. Pictures to follow when completed.
(September 2000)
Possibly the busiest summer we've ever had - far too many things going on to mention, but we're having fun. Lots of fun. And so the wapsite is still waiting for the overhaul... when I've got time... it will be even better...
(August 2000)

Summertime, and the living is busy... got another new van after the last one died suddenly (maybe we're working them too hard).
(July 2000)
We had fun in Paris entertaining the Spanish for the European Champions Cup final, but we had even more fun in Rochester as the Digital Paparazzi disguised as ridiculous American tourists taking pictures of the Dickens Festival.
(June 2000)
WAP does not stand for Wireless Application Protocol. WAP stands for What A Palaver!! Since 1993. We invented the wapsite back in 1998. For other 'wapsites' go to links.
(May 2000)
Busy working on the new look wapsite - and one of the changes may be the scrapping of this news page because when you have a quiet month like this one it's difficult thinking of things to report.
(April 2000)
The Digital Paparazzi are here! The latest addition to the ever-expanding repertoire of What A Palaver!! Fun and frivolity in a 21st century style. For further information go to Digital Paparazzi.
(February 2000)
Big Monday was a roaring success. A fabulous day. Big thanks to all 21 acts involved.
(January 2000)
The wapsite will be undergoing an extensive overhaul in the new year (when I get a new computer). Please let me know of any way in which you think it could be improved.
(November 99)

Currently very busy putting the finishing touches to 'BIG MONDAY' - quite simply a massive-monstrous-mega-mammoth-millennial street entertainment spectacular happening in Nottingham City Centre on 3/1/00 (Monday, the start of the week - but still party-time). In conjunction with Nottingham City Council. It'll be the place to be.
(October 99)
There's another chance to catch our appearance on 'Red Velvet' on Channel 4 late night Tuesday 21st September. It's very silly - in a post-modern, neo-retro, ironic kind of way.
(September 99)
The latest (and possibly strangest) TV appearance is on 'Value For Money' with Vanessa Feltz on BBC1 Friday 7.00pm mid July (16th or 23rd) testing garden furniture on an old paddle steamer on the Medway in Kent. The angle is that we are used to lying on a bed of nails so are testing for (un)comfortableness.
(July 99)
Rob and Amanda have moved yet again - but this time for good - they are now living in Annesley Woodhouse in a house with more outbuildings than they know what to do with.
(June 99)
Watch us on TV on Channel 4 on Red Velvet at approx. midnight-1.00-ish on Saturday 5th June (probably). Should be good.
(April 99)
Following our brief but spectacular and almost memorable appearances in BBC1's The Big End, the next chance to see us on TV is on The Disney Channel during their 'Sword & Sorcery Weekend' on Saturday 13th March. Again brief but this time in our own outfits with no make-up and no chainsaw.
(February 99)
We can be seen on TV (UK only) on BBC1 late Sunday nights for 6 weeks from January 10th. It's a very interesting programme called 'The Big End' - and we can both be seen in the opening title sequence and some of the linking bits throughout the programme. It's easy to spot Ian (the juggler and strange bald-headed chap) but Rob is a little more difficult to recognise.
(January 99)
The wapvan has changed. No longer old and rusty and red it is now less old and practically rust-free and beige. There will be a picture on the wapcam page when we've cleaned it and found a suitably funky location for a picture.
(December 98)
The wapsite has won an award! It may not mean that much to you or anyone else in the world but it's made me a very happy man. So I've built a trophy cabinet
(November 98)
Rob has moved again - Amanda is now working freelance so they have moved to a most respectable bungalow in New Houghton, just around the corner from WAP HQ.
(October 98)
The world premiere of Palavering happened in Leeds on Sunday 23rd August and it was a lot of fun - even if it did rain all day and there weren't many people around. Go to palavering for further details.
(September 98)
What A Palaver!! are recruiting!
Due to expansion into new and exciting directions we are looking for all kinds of people to come along and join in the fun. Basically, we can't do it all ourselves - and so we would like to hear from anyone who thinks they have something to offer. Unusual/bizarre/wierd acts, cheesy presenters, crap clowns, naff magicians, luvvies, lively personalities, enthusiastic wannabes, etc. etc... We're not offering full-time work (yet), and we're not offering loads of money (yet) - but we are offering fun.
e-mail us and tell us about yourself if you're interested/intrigued.
(August 98)
The wapsite has moved to a new hosting service and we are trying our hardest to make it a smooth transition - but you don't want to know all about the technical stuff do you ?? (hello NewNet and farewell geocities).
(June 98)
The mini-tour of Nottinghamshire village halls with Bob Hall was a resounding success - that man plays a mean boogie-woogie - for further info and some groovy boogie-woogie sounds click here
(May 98)
Check out the March/April 1998 edition of Brides magazine, page 238
(April 98)

have you really just read all that? Now go and see Krusty on the miscellany page
